Project Linus

On behalf of the local chapter of Project Linus, Marilyn Finch presented children’s quilts to Kill Devil Hills Police Lieutenant Mark Evans and Sergeant Allen Holland.  The quilts will be placed in patrol cars for officers to give children in need of comforting.

Project Linus is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization named for the blanket-toting character from the Peanuts comic strip.  Creator Charles Schulz was delighted to have Linus inspire blanket-makers to help comfort children in need.  The mission of Project Linus is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth, and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets created by volunteer “blanketeers.”

In January and February, local volunteers will meet at the Duck United Methodist Church to make quilts, blankets and afghans for children in need on the Outer Banks.  Last year, this dedicated group of women made more than 350 quilts and blankets for distribution in our area.  For more information, contact Sally Meagher at 252-261-0276.
