Uniformed officers assigned to the Patrol Operations Division have the primary purposes of responding to calls for service and conducting preventive patrols in the Town. After citizens telephone Dare Central Communications, calls for service are forwarded to officers through the dispatch office. Often, officers’ witness conditions that require self-initiated response. The first responding officer to a 911 call is usually from the Patrol Operations Division.
In Kill Devil Hills, law enforcement personnel begin their career in this division. After receiving initial law enforcement training, recruits are assigned to experienced training officers. During this time, recruits expand their Basic Law Enforcement Training, which they obtain through attendance at BLET School, and become eligible for independent patrol duty in town after successfully completing in-house field training.
Patrol Operations personnel are always alert for criminal activity and traffic violations that require immediate enforcement action.
