Instructions for Getting A Beach Driving Permit

Go to KDH Town Hall:

To apply for a beach driving permit in the Town of Kill Devil Hills, you must complete an application at the Finance Department cashier’s counter, located on the second floor of Town Hall, 102 Town Hall Drive.  

Town Hall Hours: 8:00 – 5:00, Monday - Friday

Information you will need:

Vehicle license plate number
Vehicle identification number (VIN) – located on vehicle, registration card or insurance certificate
Payment – Kill Devil Hills accepts cash, check, credit or debit cards

Since the seasonal and temporary permits allow access to drive on Nags Head’s beaches, the applicant will receive copies of the Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head Beach Driving Access Maps and regulations.  

Types of Permits:

Where Can I Drive on the Beach:

From October 1 through April 30, vehicles with a beach driving permit can drive on Kill Devil Hills AND Nags Head beaches.  All applicants will be provided a beach driving packet with maps and driving regulations for each town.  Nags Head beach driving permits are also recognized on KDH beaches.

Nags Head beach driving permits may also be obtained at TW’s Bait and Tackle Shop at 2230 South Croatan Highway in Nags Head (MP 10) during their business hours
