and Budget Worksession Notices

In order to maintain the safety of Town residents, Staff, and board members, the Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners will conduct an electronic meeting on Monday, June 8, 2020, at 6:00 p.m., using Zoom software. There are several methods the public can participate in or view the meeting.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. the Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners will conduct a recessed meeting from June 8, 2020, in the Meeting Room at the Administration Building, 102 Town Hall Drive, off Colington Road. In order to maintain the safety of Town residents, Staff, and Board of Commissioners, limited public seating observing social distancing guidelines will be available in the meeting room. The meeting also will be electronically transmitted, utilizing Zoom software.

Also, on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. the Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners will hold a worksession on the Town Manager’s Recommended Budget for Fiscal Year 2020/2021.

The Kill Devil Hills Town Manager’s Recommended Budget for the 2020/2021 fiscal year was presented to the Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. The full budget may be viewed at:https://www.kdhnc.com/682/Resources-in-the-Finance-Department, and at a table outside of the main entrance of the Town Hall. Copies of the budget may be purchased for $25.00 in the Tax and Finance Office.

Public Hearing - Chapter 151, Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance 

Reminder: on Monday, June 8, 2020, at 6:00 p.m., the Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners will conduct a public hearing at their regular meeting, which will be held electronically, on the following: Chapter 151, Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance – 2020 revision, including new FEMA flood maps  – The full text of this recommended amendment may be viewed on the Town’s website at this link: www.kdhnc.com/868.

Dare County Dept. of Health and Human Services COVID-19 Update
Updated COVID-19 Data Dashboard

On Tuesday, an updated data dashboard was released to www.darenc.com/covid19. This dashboard provides the most current-real time information on COVID-19 positive tests in Dare County. Information now includes the number of residents and non-residents, age groups, gender, and isolation details. Any other updates will be provided in the Tuesday videos and Friday written updates, unless the situation warrants an update be released sooner.
 
Results from COVID-19 Diagnostic Testing Event This Week
A total of 205 individuals were tested for COVID-19 on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 during the drive thru testing event. Of the 205 specimens, 204 were negative and 1 was deemed invalid. The invalid specimen was determined to be inadequate for testing.
Details about a third testing event, which will include both diagnostic and antibody testing, are underway and information will be released later this month. 
 
Continue to Practice The Three W’s
We all play a direct role in helping reduce the spread of COVID-19. If you leave home, practice your Ws: Wear, Wait, Wash  

  • Wear a cloth face covering if you will be with other people. 
  • Wait 6 feet apart. Avoid close contact.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer. 
COVID-19 Numbers Update
In North Carolina, there are currently 32,255 cases of COVID-19 in 100 counties. There have been 966 fatalities in NC associated with COVID-19. Currently, the state is reporting 717 hospitalizations across the state from COVID-19 illness. 
The number of positive COVID-19 tests in Dare County is 25. We are pleased to share that the individual who tested positive last month and was hospitalized has now recovered. 

This week we reported on 2 additional positive cases. The 24th case is a male, aged 50-64, who is a non-resident. The male is currently asymptomatic and remains in home isolation in Dare County. This individual acquired the virus through direct contact with a family member.  The 25th case is a female aged 25-49 who is a Dare County resident and is recovering in home isolation. Since it cannot be determined how this individual acquired the virus, this case is considered acquired through community spread. All direct contacts associated with both of these recent cases have been identified and notified.
