Potential Severe Weather Event - Update from NWS

With the remnants of Hurricane Laura expected to move eastward and pass near or north of Eastern North Carolina later today, the National Weather Service of Newport/Morehead City, NC (NWS) continues to monitor the potential for significant severe weather to impact our area.

The NWS anticipates the remnants of Hurricane Laura to link up with a cold front and bring a severe weather threat this afternoon and early evening. Damaging winds and an isolated tornado or two will be possible.

In addition, gusty southwest winds are expected to produce minor water level rises of 1 to 2 feet above ground level today evening north of Cape Hatteras.
