Kill Devil Hills Offers Assistance
to its Business Community

KDH offers items to help businesses during pandemic: signs, masks, stickers, clings

The Town of Kill Devil Hills is proud of the efforts that our local businesses and citizens have been taking, and continue to take to protect our community during this pandemic. The daily changes and sacrifices have not been easy, but they are critical to slowing the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

In responding to the Kill Devil Hills’ business community’s need for assistance, the Town has worked to develop beneficial resources for their use. Town Personnel visited close to 80 registered KDH businesses and provided them with resource packets, which included yard signs, window/door clings, stickers, safety information and messaging from the State and County, and reusable face masks. These resource packets were distributed to our businesses at no cost. The Town hopes that the resources will provide our local businesses with relief during this demanding time.

If you or your business is interested in acquiring a resource packet, please contact the Town’s Public Information Officer Rachel Tackett at 252-449-5301 or by email at rachel@kdhnc.com.

In addition, if you are a business owner/manager and wish to be placed on the Town’s business community electronic distribution list, please send an email to rachel@kdhnc.com and include the following: business name, mailing address, contact name, phone number, and preferred email address.

We're all dealing with this pandemic together - be kind, practice patience, check in with others

Controlling the Spread & Staying Well

While we have been fortunate in Dare County over the past few weeks to have relatively low numbers of new COVID-19 cases. It is important to continue useing the proven tools available to help reduce the spread of COVID 19. Please help us keep the number of new cases low by following the 3Ws:

  • Wear a cloth face covering if you will be with other people.
  • Wait 6 feet apart. Avoid close contact.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer

Practicing general wellness during these difficult times can help improve an individual's likelihood of preventing or recovering from illness due to COVID-19. With the start of a new school year  and remote learning amid a global pandemic, many adults and children are feeling anxious right now. Too much stress or anxiety can weaken your immune system over time and impact your body’s ability to fight off infection. Try these tips to reduce anxiety:
  • Limit exposure to news and social media. Try limiting your exposure to twice a day at scheduled times. Anxiety can build from media exposure.
  • Focus on what you can control. Anxiety can come from trying to control things that are outside of our control. You can control how often you wash your hands, when you wear your mask, and other precautions.
  • Get plenty of rest. Getting quality sleep for an appropriate amount of time at night can help reduce anxiety.
  • Try deep breathing exercises. Breathing exercises can help manage anxiety on a physical, physiological and mental level. The University of Michigan has some great resources to help you get started.
  • Get outside and get exercise. Exercising and spending time outdoors can be great ways to relieve stress and anxiety.

If you are still feeling anxious and think you may benefit from additional support, check out the Breaking Through Task Forces’ COVID-19 Resource guide.

Prepare for an emergency: have a kit, have a plan, stay informed
Disasters don’t plan ahead, but you can. When did you last update the supplies in your emergency kit? If you haven't done so in the past six months, take time to review the contents of your kit. Check the items you already have in your pantry, cabinets, and emergency supplies. Remove, use, or replace any supplies before they expire.

Have enough food, water, and other supplies for every member of your family to last at least 72 hours.

While preparing for a disaster during COVID-19 be sure to include these items in your kit:
Soap & hand-sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and cloth face coverings.

Remember to also include pets in your plan and stock your emergency kit with things they might need.
