First Planting of Town Official Tree

The Town of Kill Devil Hills Community Appearance Commission worked to establish an official town tree, the Live Oak. The Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation on April 24, 2020, declaring the Live Oak as the official tree of Kill Devil Hills.

To commemorate the declaration, a brief outdoor ceremony and tree planting occurred on April 30, 2021, National Arbor Day.

In an effort to raise awareness and encourage the preservation of Live Oak trees, KDH citizens are encouraged to participate in a community initiative, Love Your Live Oak.

During the month of May, place a blue ribbon on your Live Oaks. Ribbons can be picked up at the Town Hall, outside of the Planning Department, during business hours.

To further bring awareness, send photos of your Live Oak trees with their blue ribbons to info@kdhnc.com to be shared on the town's Facebook and Instagram pages.

NC staying ahead of the curve

Governor Cooper signed Executive Order 209 outlining safety measures for the month of May. Executive Order 209 will take effect April 30 and is set to expire June 1. As more North Carolinians get vaccinated and adhere to safety protocols over the course of the next month, the state anticipates lifting more restrictions on June 1.

Under the new Executive Order, masks will still be required indoors but are no longer mandated outdoors. Masks are still strongly recommended outdoors by NCDHHS in crowded areas and higher risk settings where social distancing is difficult. The Order will also increase mass gathering capacity limits. The number of people who may gather indoors will increase from 50 to 100 and the number of people who may gather outdoors will increase from 100 to 200. Occupancy limits currently in place will remain the same.
