Process and Notice to Fill Vacancy on 

Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners

Applications are now being accepted from persons interested in being considered for appointment to the open seat on the Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners.  Potential candidates must reside within Kill Devil Hills corporate limits and must complete an application in order to be considered; a résumé may be submitted with the completed application.

An application may be completed in the following –

  • on the Town’s website at www.kdhnc.com; OR
  • Mailed to: Office of the Town Clerk, P.O. Box 1719, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948; OR
  •  Delivered to: Office of the Town Clerk, 102 Town Hall Drive, Kill Devil Hills.

A paper application may be obtained by emailing info@kdhnc.com, from the Office of the Town Clerk, 102 Town Hall Drive, or from the Kill Devil Hills Branch of the Dare County Library, 400 Mustian Street.

            Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on January 16, 2024.

The Commissioner vacancy on the KDH Board of Commissioners that was created when John Windley was elected and sworn in as Mayor at the December 11, 2023, meeting. During the February 5, 2024, meeting, the BOC will use the nomination-and-ballot method to fill the vacant seat from the eligible candidates submitting applications.

Newly Elected Officials Take their Seats on the KDH Board of Commissioners

On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, the voters of Kill Devil Hills elected Mayor John Windley and Commissioners Ivy Ingram and B.J. McAvoy for four-year terms on the Board of Commissioners. The elected officials were sworn in during the Board of Commissioners meeting that took place on Monday, December 11, 2023. At the meeting, the Board unanimously appointed Ivy Ingram as the Mayor Pro Tem.

Former Mayor Ben Sproul

Sproul honored by Board of Commissioners for Service to KDH

 At its December meeting, the Board of Commissioners expressed its appreciation to Ben Sproul, outgoing KDH Mayor, for his years of dedicated service to our Town. During his tenure as Mayor, the Town of Kill Devil Hills experienced numerous improvements and changes, some of which included the redevelopment of Meekins Field Park and the opening of its Splash Pad, the expansion of the Town’s sidewalks and multi-use paths, a successful beach renourishment program, completion of the Town’s communications monopole and newest water tower, and the development of a joint Fire/EMS station in partnership with Dare County.
