Town of Kill Devil Hills

The Town of Kill Devil Hills’ annual once-per-week residential trash collection will begin Monday, November 4, 2024.  During this once-per-week collection period, properties on the east side of U.S. 158 (bypass) will receive service on Mondays, and properties on the west side of U.S. 158 will receive service on Tuesdays. The twice-per-week collection schedule will resume Monday, March 31, 2025.  Contact Public Services at 252-480-4080 for additional information. 	 Please remember to recycle and take advantage of the Town’s Recycle Center at 701 Bermuda Bay Boulevard.  Anyone can recycle at this facility Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and on Saturday, 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Additionally, Town residents can recycle at home for a small monthly fee by subscribing to the Residential Curbside Recycling Service offered by Bay Disposal, 252-491-5105.


The Kill Devil Hills Public Services Department will conduct its fire hydrant flushing program beginning Monday, November 4, 2024, and lasting approximately until Friday, November 22, 2024. Customers may experience a momentary loss of water pressure or temporary water discoloration and should check color of water prior to washing clothing. Breast Cancer Awareness 

Month Recognized in KDH

During your recent visit to Aviation Park you may have noticed a 25-foot tall pink ribbon on display. This ribbon was constructed and put on display in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to raise awareness among the community about the preventive measures that can be taken to avoid breast cancer. It is also aimed at honoring the memories of those who have lost their lives to this disease and to encourage those who are currently courageously fighting it.

Created in conjunction with Current TV of Dare County for its Destination Dare program, the Town's recent video KDH Historic Landmark Homes Tour highlights Kill Devil Hills' Historic Landmark Homes Tour, and explains the importance of the historic designation process in the Town.  

Historic Landmark Structures of Kill Devil Hills - Complete Collection, produced in conjunction with Current TV of Dare County, highlights many of the buildings designated as historic landmarks in the Town of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. This glimpse into our community's past shows the exterior and interior features of each home or cottage, and many have interviews with the homeowners, who share interesting backgrounds about the building.

Operation Green Light Operation Green Light is an initiative that encourages residents and businesses to show their support to local veterans by shining green lights throughout their communities to let local veterans know they are seen, appreciated and supported. Soon you will see an array of Kill Devil Hills’ government buildings and facilities illuminated with green lighting in honor of our local heroes—as a symbol of appreciation and support for the veterans who have so selflessly served our nation. Kill Devil Hills residents and business owners are strongly encouraged to join in the efforts and recognize the importance of honoring all those who made immeasurable sacrifices to preserve our freedom by displaying green lights at their place of business or their residence from November 4, 2024 through November 11, 2024.

Soon you will see an array of Kill Devil Hills’ government buildings and facilities illuminated with green lighting in honor of our local heroes—as a symbol of appreciation and support for the veterans who have so selflessly served our nation.

Kill Devil Hills residents and business owners are strongly encouraged to join in the efforts and recognize the importance of honoring all those who made immeasurable sacrifices to preserve our freedom by displaying green lights at their place of business or their residence from November 4, 2024 through November 11, 2024. 



The Dare County Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to announce the launch of a needs assessment survey, as well as a series of upcoming public drop-in sessions that will be held in various locations throughout Dare County this October to discuss future projects, programming and community initiatives—and to gather feedback from residents and property owners about the community’s preferences and priorities for recreational offerings in Dare County.  Attending these public input sessions provides an excellent opportunity for community members to engage with McGill Associates, the firm that has been contracted to conduct the assessment. The public input meetings will be held as a drop-in format from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the designated locations listed below.  Those who are unable to attend any of the public input sessions are still strongly encouraged to provide their input by participating in the needs assessment survey. The feedback gathered from the results of this needs assessment survey will be used to aid in the prioritization of future Dare County Parks & Recreation projects, programming and initiatives.
