Holiday Office and Refuse Collection SchedulesThe Town of Kill Devil Hills offices will be closed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, December 24-26, 2024, in observance of the Christmas holiday, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, for the New Year’s holiday. Please note the holiday office and refuse schedules below: *On Monday, December 23rd, there will be a special TOWN-WIDE residential trash collection. This will be the last pick-up, until after Christmas Day.*

Love Your Live OakTree AdoptionThe Town of Kill Devil Hills' Community Appearance Commission (CAC) worked to establish an official town tree, the Live Oak. Awareness and preservation efforts are conducted during the month of May with a ‘Love Your Live Oak’ campaign. Leading up to the campaign, the CAC will be accepting applications from KDH residents who are interested in receiving a live oak tree, at no cost to them, to plant on their property. To receive a free young Live Oak Tree, please complete an application. Applications will be collected through December 31, 2024, for review by the CAC in January of 2025. (Limit one application per property owner. Previous recipients not eligible.)

The KDHPD Alerts Community to Brushing Scam
Brushing Scam Alert! What is it? If you receive an unexpected package you didn’t order with a QR code in the package, it could be a brushing scam. Do NOT scan the QR codes, as they can send your info directly to scammers. Scammers use your name and address to send items and write fake reviews in your name to boost product ratings. Why It’s Dangerous: Your personal information (PII) may have been exposed. Scammers may use your information for fraud or identity theft. What to Do: - Notify the retailer.
- Update passwords and enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
- Monitor bank accounts for fraud.
- Report suspicious activity and consider a fraud alert on your credit report.
Always stay alert & protect your information! If you believe you’re a target of a brushing scam, or any type of scam, you can report them by calling Dare Central Communications at (252) 473-3444 or the Kill Devil Hills Police Department at (252) 449-5337.
